While the Mazda CX-7 is considered a Crossover SUV it competes in the Sports Crossover delivering exhilarating performance with a sports-like car handling. The Mazda CX-7 is slotted between the Mazda Tribute and the Mazda CX-9.
The Mazda CX-7 was unveiled at the Los Angeles AutoShow in 2006 and was released in Canada in spring 2006 as a 2007 model. CX-7 uses a new platform instead of sharing the larger Mazda CD3 uses for the Mazda CX-9 and Ford Edge crossovers and Mazda6. The Mazda CX-7 combines the front suspension from the Mazda MPV, with the rear suspension from the Mazda5. It also shares many of the drive components with the Mazdaspeed6 including a 2.3L turbocharged engine, with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The CX-7 is equipped with four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, standard anti-lock brakes, ESC (electronic stability control) and traction control. With an optional front wheel drive or Active Torque-Split all wheel drive system, which is a Mazda developed technology which uses two computer-controlled magnetic clutches that feed up to 50% of the engine's torque to the rear wheels.
The 2013 Mazda CX-7 Canada is available in three trims, the Mazda CX-7 GX with a 2.3L turbo 161HP engine and 5 speed AT w/ Sport mode. Then there is Mazda CX-7 GS AWD which includes 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode, a 2.3L turbo 244HP engine and 18" tires. The Mazda CX-7 GT is an upgrade from the CX-7 GS features.
